Research Strategies

The word research, as defined in the Merriam-Webster Dictionary, means "to search or investigate exhaustively". In order to do so, one must develop an organized plan for how their research will progress. Your plan should include but not be limited to these steps:

Step 1 - Identify your topic

Step 2 - Develop your topic

Step 3 - Get background information

Step 4 - Understand Boolean logic

Step 5 - Select Resources

Step 6 - Search for Resources

Now that we have a good understanding of the library resources that are available to you, let's use this knowledge and apply it to the steps outlined above. Using the following fictitious assignment to demonstrate, the next frames will take you through each step of the research process and will include examples of outcome.

"Write a 10 page paper about the relationship between physical and psychological health focusing on a specific health concern. Your information should come from books, journals, reference resources and the Internet. You should use no less than 10 resources and only 3 may come from Internet website."
