Finding Articles
Finding articles is also now easier than ever. You may remember rows and rows of indexes that you had to search year by year to identify periodical articles (magazines, newspapers and journals). Those indexes are still available, but now, most of your article searching can be done online through products known as online databases.
Online databases are large collections of information about articles from hundreds or thousands of periodicals. These collections may be specific to one subject area or multi-disciplinary, covering many different subject areas. Online databases are primarily used to locate articles about a specific topic area. In some cases, the database will have only citations (author, title, journal, volume, issue information). In others, the text of the article will be attached to read right online. The next screens will introduce some online databases, give tips on searching online databases and introduce electronic journals (a similar but different beast!).
