Style Manuals
Style manuals help you to format a research paper and give credit for the information that you have based your paper upon (citing). The most commonly used style manuals for academic research papers are APA (American Psychological Association) and MLA (Modern Language Association). Other well-known style manuals are Chicago Style and Turabian. Check with your instructor to see which manual you should be following.
Print copies of common style manuals are available in most every library. There is also information about most styles online (although not as comprehensive as the print edition). Be aware that electronic resources, including articles retrieved from online databases, have their own special rules for citing.
