Charism Statement
The Charism of St. Francis at the University of St. Francis begins with the university community reflecting upon the message of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
In the early 13th century, St. Francis of Assisi--deacon, founder of a religious order, spiritual guide, medieval man, Italian dreamer—made a deep impression on the history of the world and gained the respect of people everywhere. His memory continues to create a better world.
St. Francis of Assisi struggled to live the message of the Gospel through simplicity, equality, peacemaking and respect for all things created. We, at the University of St. Francis, pledge ourselves:
- To students by offering a liberal and professional education with religious dimensions
- To inspire in our students a love of knowledge and truth
- To convey to students its belief that knowledge may never be separated from personal holiness
- To instill in the students the truth that all creation can lead to the Creator
- To design into the core curriculum of the university, the desire to renew society in wisdom, in justice and in charity
