SOA Watch founder to speak at USF
"U. S. Policy
in Latin America and Iraq" will be presented
Thursday, Nov. 6 at the University of St. Francis
by Father Roy Bourgeois, founder of the School
of Americas (SOA) Watch.
The lecture will be at 7 p.m. in the university's
Moser Performing Arts Center auditorium. Admission
is free, but reservations are suggested. For reservations

In its third year, the social justice series at
the University of St. Francis is presented in
cooperation with its sponsor, the Sisters of St.
Francis of Mary Immaculate. The series features
experts in the area of social justice from a Catholic
perspective who address issues that are faced
today by responsible, thoughtful citizens of the
world, according to

Bourgeois

Sister Sharon Frederick, O.S.F., series coordinator.
A Catholic priest, Bourgeois worked in Bolivia
and El Salvador and is an outspoken critic of
United States policy in Latin America. He has
spent four years in federal prisons as the result
of actions in nonviolent protests against SOA
training.
Bourgeois has also worked with two documentary
films that have received Academy Award nominations:
Gods of Metal (1983) about the nuclear arms race
and School of Assassins (1995). He is the recipient
of the 1997 Pax Christi USA Teacher of Peace Award.
