Catholic campaign for immigration reform at USF

The University of St. Francis will host an immigration workshop, "Catholic Campaign for Immigration Reform: Justice for Immigrants," on Saturday, Oct. 29 from 9 a.m. to noon in USF’s Moser Performing Arts Center auditorium. Admission is free.

The workshop will discuss the Catholic Church’s viewpoint on immigration issues and the role it plays. The purpose is to create awareness and provide training on immigration issues and the current status of immigrant justice legislation.

"We are excited to be part of this workshop that will generate awareness about how we can all help move the Secure America and Orderly Immigration Act of 2005 forward," said Ingrid Goobar-Szleifer, USF assistant professor of English and foreign languages. "It will also give us insight into how we can take action and influence legislators and politicians."

Sponsors of the workshop include: The University of St. Francis, Peace and Social Justice, Ministry of the Diocese of Joliet, Hispanic Ministry Office of the Diocese of Joliet, Illinois Coalition for Immigrant and Refugee Rights.

Training on the immigration issues is provided by the Illinois Coalition for Immigrant and Refugee Rights.
