USF presents award-winning play “Closer”

University of St. Francis Sometimes Thespians presents the award-winning play Closer by Patrick Marber, Aug. 3-6.

The production will run Thursday, Friday and Saturday, Aug. 3, 4 and 5 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, Aug. 6 at 3 p.m. in the university’s Moser Performing Art Center.

This British comedy-drama of coupling and uncoupling, instant attraction and habitual infidelity, offers more than just a peek inside somebody else’s bedroom. The four-person show follows the intermingling of two men and two women over a period of four and a half years. All of them are searching for things they never find—love, intimacy, companionship and truth. Ultimately, it exposes the raw nerve of pain that comes with the territory of love, setting off sympathetic vibrations in anyone who has been there.

The cast includes senior, Jeanelle Calogero of Minooka, IL.; senior, Arturo Insurriaga of Chicago, IL.; sophomore, Nora Keane of Homer Glen, Ill.; and senior, Nick Matesevac of Joliet. The play is directed by Sera O’Connor of Worth, Ill. and junior, Nicole Talaga of Crest Hill.

Patrick Marber, a London playwright, earned much critical acclaim with this play. It won the New York Drama Critics Circle Award for Best Foreign Play, the Olivier Award for Best New Play, the London Critics Circle Award for Best Play and the Evening Standard Award for Best Comedy.
