“Compilations” comes to University of St. Francis
“Compilations,” the visual explorations of two artists, is on exhibit through March 31 at the University of St. Francis in Joliet.
Nearly 400 four-inch-square collages, a mere excerpt from the ongoing journals of Bloomington, Ill. artist Adam Farcus, can be seen in “Compilations.” Since August 2004, Farcus has created one collage per day. Exhibited in chronological grid formation, the collages allow viewers to trace the bewildering, often humorous, literal and symbolic archive of Farcus’ daily life.
“Compilations” also features elegant gouache paintings by Kris Holmgren, Holmgren, who teaches at Illinois State University, extracted sections of imagery from a variety of found photographic sources, such as landscapes, decorative patterns and aerial views. Playing upon contrasts in perspective, scale and detail, Holmgren’s pastel and tertiary networks offer pleasantly intangible glimpses of seemingly clandestine environments, according to Paul Erschen, director of the Moser Performing Arts Center gallery at the University of St. Francis.
A closing reception for “Compilations” will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday, March 30 in the gallery. The artists will be in attendance. Moser Performing Arts Center gallery hours are 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Fridays. For information or weekend hours, call (815) 740-3821.
