A
University of St. Francis team has been selected
by the Association of American Colleges and Universities
to participate in the Greater Expectations Institute
this June in Denver, Colo.
The
team includes faculty members Jeff Chamberlain,
history; Ruth Weldon, computer science; and Joanne
Sterling, education. Frank Pascoe, dean, College
of Undergraduate Programs, and Student Government
Association President Joseph Van Der Bosch are
also part of the team.
The
Greater Expectations Institute on Campus Leadership
for Student Engagement, Inclusion and Achievement
is designed for institutions already working to
build campus environments that foster all students
engagement, inclusion and high achievement. During
the five-day institute, teams consult with national
experts, explore effective practices with institute
faculty and learn from other teams.
The
USF team was selected based on an essay competition.
The
institute is part of a three-year effort by the
Association of American Colleges and Universities
to define outcomes and strategies for 21st century
liberal education. The association recently released
the report "Greater Expectations: A New Vision
for Learning as a Nation Goes to College."
The report calls for campuses to create environments
that develop intentional learners who are well
prepared to flourish in a complex, diverse and
interdependent world.
The University of St. Francis serves more than 4,300 students nationwide, including 1,800 at its main campus in Joliet.
