USF appoints College of Education dean
The
University of St. Francis has appointed John Gambro
as dean of its College of Education. Gambros
appointment concluded a national search for the
position, according to USF President Michael Vinciguerra.
Gambro
served as associate dean and interim dean of the
College of Education at USF for three years, during
which time he was responsible for the coordination
of a successful Illinois State Board of Education
review. He also oversaw the development of the
Regional Education Academy for Leadership (REAL),
coordinated the expansion of master of science
in education programs and led the faculty in revising
and aligning all certification programs with NCATE
Standards.
Gambro,
of Yorkville, began his tenure at USF in 1992
and has served as an associate professor of education.
He
holds a doctorate and masters degree in
educational psychology from Northern Illinois
University and a bachelors degree in elementary
and special education from Northeastern Illinois
University, Chicago.
Teacher
Education is a tradition at the University of
St. Francis, which offers undergraduate programs
in elementary and secondary education as well
as graduate programs in Education and Education
with Certification. The College of Education has
also established the Regional Education Academy
for Leadership, which provides professional development,
masters degree cohorts, new teacher induction
programs, special approval/certification programs
and educational conferences.
The University of St. Francis serves more than 4,300 students nationwide, including 1,800 at its Joliet campus. The university offers more than 60 areas of undergraduate study, including education, arts and sciences, nursing, computer science, business and applied organizational management.
