USF to host Joliet West High School students’ art show
Joliet West High School students will exhibit their artwork at the University of St. Francis Twin Oaks campus. An opening reception will be 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on May 4. The exhibit will continue through the summer.
This is the third year that USF is host to the show at its Twin Oaks site, 3033 W. Jefferson St., according to Sharon Wysoglad, director of the university’s Regional Education Academy for Leadership. The exhibit will be in suite 105. For information, call (815) 740-3699.
"All the walls get adorned with impressive artwork created by the Joliet West students," said Wysoglad. "Parents and community members are welcome to view the work hanging in our gallery and the artists will be available on May 4 to answer questions and share their work."
The exhibit includes drawing, painting, design, printmaking, sculpture, ceramics and photography. The work consists of pieces created throughout the school year by students in grades 9-12. Joliet West art teachers Iliana Angel and John Zilewicz coordinate the event.
"USF students attending classes at the Twin Oaks site appreciate and enjoy the displays that adorn the walls during this time. We have even had offers made to purchase student artwork from previous shows! This event truly demonstrates another way that the university is making connections with the community," Wysoglad added.
The University of St. Francis in Joliet serves 4,100 students nationwide with more than 60 areas of undergraduate study in the areas of arts and sciences, business, education, nursing and allied health and social work. Degree completion and graduate programs are also offered.
