J.Y. Song brings classical piano to University of St. Francis
Pianist
J.Y. Song, who has received rave reviews internationally,
will perform in concert Friday, Sept. 19 at the
University of St. Francis in Joliet.
Song
will perform in the university's Moser Performing
Arts Center at 7:30 p.m. Reservations are suggested.

Song received rave reviews internationally for
her performance of 20th century music such as
Debussy, Bartok and Argentinian composer Ezequiel
Vinao. She was also selected by the Association
of Performing Arts Presenters in Washington D.C.
for its first artist showcase, in 1998.She is
the 1999 recipient of the American Pianists Association's
Chiristel Award. Also In 1999, Song received the
Pro Music Award, which resulted in engagements
throughout Asia, Europe and the United States.
Born
in Taiwan and raised in Switzerland, Song studied
at the Conservatoire du Geneve, the Conservatoire
de Lausanne and Stanford. She completed doctoral
studies at Juliard, where she received the school's
highest honor, the William Petschek Award. Song
has taught at Oberlin conservatory and is on the
faculty at Hunter College and the Mannes College
of Music.
Song's
concert is the first of the university's 2003-04
Fine Arts Performance Series. Ars Antigua Chamber
Orchestra will present an All Haydn Concert at
3 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 9. The concert will include
a chamber music arrangement of The Surprise Symphony.
The
series will continue on Saturday, Dec. 13 with
a 7:30 p.m. performance by Baltimore Consort of
Wassail, Wassail (Music to Celebrate Christmas).
The Baltimore Consort is a virtuoso ensemble specializing
in the popular music of 16th to 18th centuries
and traditional music rooted in earlier times.
