USF Solutions gives local students opportunity to "be the boss"

This summer, kids can have fun with their friends and be the boss of their own business! Solutions: A Resource Center for Business and Community Partnerships at the University of St. Francis offers Kid Biz summer camp, a unique business program for students entering third through seventh grades. The camp is held in the newly renovated Solutions state-of-the-art business center.

From product concept and obtaining a loan, to marketing and selling their goods or services, the Kid Biz summer camp offers children the opportunity to see what it’s like to run their own company.

"Kid Biz will inspire our future leaders and CEOs to dream big and turn their dreams into reality," said Bonnie Covelli, Solutions director. These young students will have fun while learning basic business practices, math and computer skills, according to Covelli. They will get a chance to be the president, design a product and make a commercial. "We’ll help them discover an idea, create posters and set up shop with their friends!" added Covelli.

A certified elementary school teacher with the assistance of USF students and local business people will teach Kid Biz students the fundamentals of running a company from the ground up. Local business owners willing to donate their expertise and time are encouraged to contact Solutions.

Kid Biz is open to children entering third through seventh grades. Session one is June 12-16; session two is July 10-14. Sessions run Monday through Friday from noon to 4 p.m. Cost is $75 for the five-day session, materials and daily snack. Space is limited. Pre-registration is required.
