Mostly Mozart to be presented by USF’s Schola Cantorum
Mostly Mozart, in honor of the 250th anniversary of the composer’s birth, will be presented by the University of St. Francis student choir, Schola Cantorum, and the Joliet Orchestra at the University of St. Francis. The concert is at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, April 22.
The concert will feature a variety of works by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (1756-91), including selections from Symphony No. 39 in E flat Major, The Solemn Vespers, The Coronation Mass and The Magic Flute. Additionally, the choir and orchestra will perform traditional American songs, English madrigals by Thomas Morley and Thomas Ford, selections from Porgy and Bess by George Gershwin and an orchestral medley from Rogers and Hammerstein’s The Sound of Music.
The concert will be in the university’s Moser Performing Arts Center auditorium. Tickets are $8 for general admission and $5 for students and senior citizens. Reservations are recommended; call (815) 740-3404.
The Schola Cantorum is directed by Patrick Brannon, USF professor of music. Beverly M. Holt and Jane Siron accompany on piano and organ. The Joliet Orchestra at the University of St. Francis is directed by Michael Sundblad.
Also featured on the concert will be the USF Chamber Singers, soloists Robert Hackett and Becky Hicks of Joliet, Therese Miller of Plainfield, Amanda Welsh and Lacey Petrella of Minooka, David Murray of Franklin Park, Joanna Richardson of Elgin, Nina Lennon of Morris, Katrina Crone of Peoria and Racette Miranda of Chicago.
Schola Cantorum also includes Michele Hernandez, Jeff Hicks, Kimberly Lawrence, Nicole Marie Lopez, Nicholas Matesevac and John Scatena of Joliet; Joshua Mancuso of Shorewood; Jason Blauw of Lockport; Brittany Hoffman of Frankfort; Brittany Alcantar of New Lenox; Aaron M.Gilmore of Morris; Lera Tuskey of Coal City; Jamie Purcell of Elwood; Kevin Leonard of Palos Park; Anna Deneka of Midlothian; Nora Keane of Homer Glen; Tomi Ayankoya of Bartlett; Michael Solver of West Chicago; and Jessica Jannusch of Robbinsdale, Minn.
