The Odd Couple premiered on Broadway in 1965 at the Plymouth Theatre in New York City, starring Walter Matthau as Oscar and Art Carney as Felix Unger. Writer Neil Simon was inspired to write the off-the-wall comedy by his brother Danny, who was recently divorced and rooming with a divorced friend to cut expenses. The two had drama and were getting on each others nerves from the start. Brother Neil thought up the idea of the comedy and the rest is history.
