USF kicks off 2005-06 exhibition season with "Part/Object"
University of St. Francis kicks off its 2005-06 exhibition season with "Part/Object" – an exhibit featuring the work of Chicago artists Scott Lyne and Jeff DeGolier, and Toronto-based artist Toni Hafkenscheid. The show runs through Sept. 25 in the Moser Performing Arts Center gallery.
Consisting of sculpture and photography, "Part/Object" operates by eroding the material certainty of the sculptural object and the documentary testimony of the photographic process.
Viewers may indulge in the extreme detail and precision of Lyne's finely-crafted quotidian miniatures. DeGolier's luscious sculptural environments, presented as arrangements of still-photographs, prey upon the confounding experience of contextual ambiguity. Hafkenscheid's large-scale digital photographs of romantic landscapes, nostalgic architecture and construction sites refuse the familiar "Photoshop" tricks of the digital age. Instead, Hafkenscheid employs extreme discipline and patience waiting hours for perfectly stereotypical arrangements of light, color and detail.
Gallery hours are 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays; 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Fridays. For weekend hours or other information, call (815) 740-3404.
