USF presents Rent Control & Spare Change

The University of St. Francis Sometimes Thespians will present two plays by Arthur Nersesan: Rent Control and Spare Change on Feb. 2, 3 and 4.

Performances are at 7:30 p.m. in the Moser Performing Arts Center auditorium. Tickets are $12 for adults and $8 for students and senior citizens. For reservations or information, call (815)740-3404.

"Each play yields very powerful human results while subtly investigating the major social issues of our time . . . from poverty and homelessness to exploitation of the poor and marginalized," said Salim Diab, Sometimes Thespians faculty advisor.

Cast members include Nick Cerovac of Shorewood; Jamin Gahm of Freeport; Keith Hernandez of Aurora; Jeff Hicks and Nicole Talaga of Joliet; Art Insurriaga of Munster, Ind.; Nora Keane of Homer Glen; Kevin Leonard of Palos Park; Sera O’Connor of Worth; Steve Shanks of Bolingbrook; and Angela Snode of Channahon.

The production is directed by Chris Bersano of Minooka, a 2004 USF graduate.

Rent Control runs out of control when an elderly intruder, suspiciously reminiscent of the prophet Elijah, takes command of a young investor's newly purchased condominium with the unlikely help of a seductive NYU co-ed. Walls are torn down, floors are ripped up, yet as the apartment is exposed it is discovered that it's not the pot of gold these treasure hunters are searching for but the rainbow itself.

Spare Change is Nersesian's final play in this collection. Startling in its frankness, inventive in its use of crowd dynamics, this is an uncompromising study of the culture of poverty.
