USF to offer Saturday youth art camp, workshop

Want to take your child’s finger-painting to another level?  Is there a future Picasso running around your house?  Art camp and workshop at the University of St. Francis may be what you’re looking for.

Students first grade to eighth grade are invited every Saturday morning, Feb. 10 through April 18, to explore and hone their artistic skills.  USF will provide skilled collegiate instructors to teach all children.

Class sizes will be small so all students get every opportunity to realize their potential, said Michael “Chester” Costello, chair of the university’s Visual Arts Department. The students will be grouped by their age, grade and skill level.  Printmaking, drawing, collage, sculpture and painting practices will be introduced.  A brief introduction to art history will be also taught.

Cost for the 10-week session is $100 per student, which includes art supplies, instruction and bottled water.  Also, scholarships from the university will be offered to students demonstrating financial need.  Families interested in the scholarship program are asked to contact the Visual Arts Department.
