USF’s Senior Saturdays offers spring programs
A film and discussion, study abroad experiences and an Earth Day celebration with a master gardener are planned this spring for Senior (Citizen) Saturdays offered by the University of St. Francis.
Senior Saturdays is a Learning Throughout Life program sponsored by the University of St. Francis library. The library is open to senior citizens during Saturdays throughout the year. Senior citizens are allowed borrowing privileges and use of the library’s computers.
In the first spring 2006 program on Saturday, Feb. 18, the movie Cinderella Man will be shown followed by a discussion led by Dr. Cathleen Schultz, USF associate professor of history and a syndicated newspaper columnist on historical films. The movie will be shown at 9 a.m. in the university’s Abbey. The Abbey is located at the lower level of Marian Hall off Taylor Street.
USF students will share their study abroad experiences with senior citizens on Saturday, March 18. They will discuss culture shock and what they learned by being immersed in another culture. The program is at 9 a.m. in the university’s library on Taylor Street.
Seniors are invited to celebrate Earth Day on Saturday, April 22 with master gardener Dolores "Dolly" Foster, former president of the Hammond Garden Club in Indiana and an accredited horticulturalist and adjunct horticulture instructor at Joliet Junior College. The program is at 9 a.m. in the library.
