USFs Senior Saturdays offers book discussion on the Story of Troy
Senior citizens interested in lifelong learning opportunities can participate in Senior Saturdays programs offered by the University of St. Francis, including a book discussion on Saturday, Nov. 13.
"In Love and War: Geoffrey Chaucers Use of the Story of Troy" a book discussion on Saturday, Nov. 13 will be presented by Marcia Marzec, USF professor of English. The recent movie "Troy" has spotlighted a story that has fascinated western civilization for two and a half millennia. Marzec will examine the Troy story and Chaucers uses of the pagan Greek epic for a very Christian purpose.
Marzec, who holds a Ph.D. from Northern Illinois University, has written extensively about Chaucers works. She is also the founder and coordinator of the universitys annual Undergraduate Conference on English Language and Literature, which draws student participants from throughout the country as well as internationally recognized authors.
The Senior Saturdays book discussion is free and will be presented from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. in the universitys library. The program will be followed by hands-on Internet instruction. Reservations are suggested. For reservations or information, call (815) 740-3404.
Senior Saturdays is a Learning Throughout Life program sponsored by the University of St. Francis library. The library will be open to seniors during Saturdays throughout the year. Senior citizens will be allowed borrowing privileges and use of the librarys computers.
