USF’s Senior Saturdays offers variety of fall activities
Senior (Citizen) Saturdays offered by the University of St. Francis will provide a variety of programs this fall.
Senior Saturdays is a Learning Throughout Life program sponsored by the University of St. Francis library. The library will be open to seniors during Saturdays throughout the year. Senior citizens are allowed borrowing privileges and use of the library’s computers.
In the first fall 2005 program, Starved Rock State Park storyteller Bill Myers will present "Tales Told True," consisting of personal and folk tales flavored with humor and poetry. This free program is 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Sept. 24 in the library on the university campus, off Taylor Street.
Seniors and friends can enjoy an afternoon at the Art Institute of Chicago and view the Toulouse-Lautrec and Montmarte exhibit on Saturday, Oct. 1. The program will begin at 10:30 a.m. in the Moes Room with a lecture by USF alumna and professor emeritus Karen Kietzman, who taught art at the university. Total cost for lecture, lunch, transportation and admission is $40 per person. The lecture and lunch are at USF. The group will return from the Art Institute to UAF at about 6 p.m. Reservations are required and spaces are limited; call (815) 740-3404 by Sept. 28 for reservations.
"Tending the Soul Is Healing the Body" will be presented at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 19 in the library. The program is a reflection on the sacred journey of wellness that includes nourishing the mind, body and spirit. Professor emeritus Rita Travis, a massage therapist and wellness expert, will give the presentation. Body, mind and spirit connections will be discussed and Travis will lead the group through simple moving meditations that enhance relaxation and encourage wellness. This program is free. The University of St. Francis is at 500 Wilcox St. in Joliet. The university serves some 4,100 students nationwide.
