Two area musicians will perform free concert
Two area musicians, Stefan L. Smith and Casey
McGrath, will present a free concert at 4 p.m.
Sunday, Dec. 12 in the University of St. Francis
Moser Performing Arts Center.
Smith, on the viola, and McGrath, on violin, have
performed several times at the university with
the Joliet Sinfonian Ensemble. They will be accompanied
by Lyudmila Lakisova. The concert will feature
works by Bach, Dvorak, Sibelius, Smith and Hummel.
Smith, aside from playing the viola, writes music for the concert hall as well as for film. He is writing the film score to a feature entitled "Hopeless" which will be participating in the Sundance film festival. Smith has been principal of both Henry Mancini Institute Orchestras and is also a member of the DePaul Symphony Orchestra. Recent awards include MYSO Concerto Competition winner of 2003 and the National Award of Merit at the National Fine Arts Festival of 2000.
McGrath was the principal second violinist of
the Butler Symphony Orchestra and also
first runner up at the JCFA concerto competition
in 2003. She is a member of the
Lafayette Symphony, Marion Philharmonic, and also
the New Millennium Philharmonic. She also studies
privately with Drew Lecher of Naperville. She
also recently released her first book of poems.
