USF radio station gives holiday spirit 24 hours a day

One of the area’s finest holiday traditions, the Spirit of Christmas—holiday music, commercial-free, 24 hours a day from Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 25 through Jan. 2—will again be presented by The Edge WCSF 88.7 FM, the student-run radio station at the University of St. Francis.

Christmas classics, music from the big band era and children’s songs will be featured as well as gospel interpretations, vocal instrumental arrangements and contemporary holiday music.

More than 200,000 listeners tune into the Spirit of Christmas programming, which reaches listeners throughout the greater Will County area. This year that number is expected to grow as listeners can now tune in to the station 24 hours a day, seven days a week via the Internet. The station has expanded its listening audience from what was a 25-mile-radius to reach audiences throughout the country.

This is the 12th year the University of St. Francis in Joliet has offered the Spirit of Christmas for the community.

Sponsorships by businesses and individuals through a variety of packages are available. Sponsorships are an opportunity to support the student educational experience and to offer holiday greetings to customers and friends.

"A Spirit of Christmas sponsorship is an excellent way to keep in touch with the community," said Don Burke, Spirit of Christmas producer. "At the same time, it allows WCSF Radio to keep up with the quickly changing pace of technology and offers valuable hands-on operation and programming experience to USF students."
