“Training and Education in Academia and Industry” conference will be presented by the University of St. Francis (USF) School of Professional Studies in partnership with the Illinois Council in Continuing Education (ICCHE) on Friday, Sept. 26.
“This conference brings together trainers and educators from across industries to dialogue about meeting the needs of adult learners. The webinar will highlight an interdisciplinary conversation about current trends in training and development,” said Bonnie Covelli, director, School of Professional Studies and president of ICCHE, which represents two- and four-year colleges and universities across the state.
This conference will also honor the late Joy Thompson founder of and faculty member in the M.S. in Training & Development Program at the University of St. Francis and a past president of ICCHE
“Dr. Thompson was an inspiration in the field of adult learning. She was a mentor and a guide to her students and her colleagues. The ICCHE Executive Board is pleased to partner with St. Francis in this joint event to honor our friend and colleague,” said Covelli.
The conference will include a panel discussion on “Adult learners, technology and e-learning tools that transcend time and space in education and industry.” The discussion is targeted toward trainers and educators working with adults across industries, including corporate, non-profit, education and health care.
Moderator will be Terry Borg, director of External & Global Programs, College of Education at Northern Illinois University. The panel includes Amy Murphy, director of Corporate Community Services at Joliet Junior College; Joseph Ferrallo, visiting professor, University of St. Francis and president of Client Contact Center Solutions; Jody Smrekar, manager eLearning and HR Technology at UTi Worldwide Inc.; Joe Livigni, sales manager at Capsim Management Simulations Inc.; and Anne Llewelln, director of Training & Development, Dorland Health.
An address will also be given by retired USF basketball coach Pat Sullivan, who has spoken to groups internationally. Sullivan will discuss attitude and leadership.
The conference runs from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the university’s 500 Wilcox St. campus and is followed by an ICCHE board meeting. The conference is also available through webinar.
