Jillian Schefke
- Biology major, Pre-med
- Hometown: Streamwood, Illinois
As a Biology Fellow, her responsibilities
have included working in the prep lab, leading supplemental instruction for
General Chemistry I &II, working as a lab and research assistant, and
tutoring several science courses. Her first semester, she worked in the prep
lab. During the summer of 2002, she worked with Dr. Lisa Hedrick, associate
professor of biochemistry, to maintain tissue cultures of soybean cells and
preformed literature research. This work started in January 2002, and will
continue at least through the spring of 2005. If all goes well, she and Dr.
Hedrick will preform a series of experiments where the cells will be exposed
to UV light, and they will measure DNA repair. As a supplemental instruction
leader, she held group study sessions for students taking General Chemistry
I & II.
Besides working as a fellow, she enjoys
golfing, reading, baby-sitting, kayaking, and biking. If she is not doing
homework, she is probably sitting in the Kirk Center causing some trouble.
She worked as a nursing assistant in pediatrics at St. Alexius Medical Center.
After graduating, she plans on attending medical school. After that, who
knows?
