Biology and Environmental Science Fellows Scholarship Program

University of St. Francis
Joliet, IL

What is the program?

The Biology and Environmental Sciences Fellows Scholarship Program is designed to provide an enriching environment to selected students majoring in biology or environmental science. The students receive a $3,000 stipend each year in the program provided that they meet the requirements. Students competing for the fellows usually receive an additional scholarship for academics from the university. Those students who are chosen for the program will build close relationships with science faculty and fellow students as they serve the Natural Science Department during the four years. Opportunities for working on research, as lab assistants, and tutors are just some of the possibilities that this program offers. Fellows also work on a group research project.

What is the philosophy?

The University of St. Francis Fellows programs gives academically gifted Biology and Environmental Science majors a unique opportunity to interact with the Department of Natural Sciences faculty and students and to participate in off-campus academic activities. These activities are selected to enhance their own personal educational experiences and benefit the entire scientific community at USF. On-campus, the Fellows participate in tutoring to enhance the success of other students. Fellows also assist science faculty in ways to help strengthen the teaching and research done at the university, as well as broaden and reinforce their own learning. Off-campus, the Fellows participate in internship and research programs at various locations. The off-campus activities assist the Fellows in career decisions and their career preparation. Overall, the program strengthens the Fellows’ education and increase post-graduate opportunities.
