What is the NAACP?
The NAACP is a civil rights organization which was
founded in 1909, in New York City, in response to increasing violence against
African Americans in all parts of the country. Although the NAACP has changed
very much from its original formulation by a multicultural group of people
it continues to actively fight for the rights of African Americans and
other minorities.
What we offer?
The NAACP Youth Council offers those of the area with
the chance to participate in a number of diverse activities. As a member
of the NAACP Youth Council you can be of service to yourself and your community.
We will help you develop into a more dynamic and disciplined youth leader
by giving you hands on experience in planning and executing local programs.
What kinds of programs and activities do we have?
We can offer you the opportunity to engage in a number of
social and educational activities, as well as a community service projects.
Some of these activities include: trips to amusement parks, sporting events,
movies and dinners, lock-in retreats, trips to museums, leadership workshop,
African American enrichment programs.
What benefits can I get out of being a member?
Besides the intangible leadership and management
skills you will learn there are many other tangible benefits. These benefits
include various scholarships for college, the opportunity to meet new people
through the many regional and national conferences held by the NAACP and
many transcript building experiences
