Natural Sciences
The Natural Science Department is dedicated to preparing science students to live and work in a changing and scientific world by teaching basic natural sciences and scientific inquiry. We prepare students for career and professional opportunities in the sciences as well as life-long learning in the context of the liberal arts setting and the Franciscan tradition. The Natural Science Department provides rigorous and innovative instruction in:
- a broad-based curriculum designed to provide Bachelor of Science Biology majors with a strong foundation in Biology, Chemistry, and Physics;
- an interdisciplinary curriculum designed to provide Bachelor of Science Environmental Science majors with a strong foundation in Biology, Chemistry, and Environmental Science;
- undergraduate preparation for students interested in advanced study in graduate programs or professional programs such as medicine, physician assistant, physical therapy, pharmacy, veterinary, or dentistry;
- courses which fulfill the Scientific Inquiry component of Liberal Education requirements;
- service courses for those majoring in Nursing, Allied Health, and Social Work;
- science
courses for Elementary Education majors and Biology majors
seeking secondary certification.
Within each of these categories, both inside and outside of the classroom, science is presented as an experimental and observational endeavor that provides for intellectual growth through an open, questioning, and reasoned approach to learning.
