Format
for Submitting Multiple Choice & True/False WebCT Quiz Questions to CID
If you
are creating a multiple choice quiz/test for your online course that CID
will be uploading for you, we ask that you follow certain procedures in
the creation and submission of the quiz/test. The quiz that you send to
CID must be in the following format (see example below):
Each question must have a
title, which should appear as: Title: Question number. Note: The question number must be a two digit number; for numbers
1 through 9, insert a zero before the number. Note: One space must be between the colon and the word Question.
Each question must begin with a question
number, followed by either a period "." or a parentheses ")".
The question wording must follow the question
number. Note: One space should be between the question number and the
question wording.
Each answer must begin with a letter (A-Z)
followed by a period "." or a parentheses ")". Note: All text should be aligned flush left to the left margin.
The correct answer is indicated by placing
an asterisk (*) directly in front of the answer. Note: Do not put a space between the asterisk and the correct
answer.
Multiple Choice Example:
Title: Question 03
3) Who determined the
exact speed of light? a. Albert Einstein
*b. Albert Michelson
c. Thomas Edison
d. Guglielmo Marconi
True/False Example:
Title: Question 03
3) Albert Michelson determined the
exact speed of light? *a. True
b. False
Format
for Submitting Paragraph WebCT Quiz Questions to CID
The logic for importing paragraph questions (also known as "essay" or "open-ended" questions) is similar to what is described above for multiple choice questions. The primary difference is that the first line of formatting must begin with "Type: P". This is followed by the "Title" (which is optional), the question number, and the question wording. (see example below):
Each question must have a
title, which should appear as: Title: Question number. Note: The question number must be a two digit number; for numbers
1 through 9, insert a zero before the number. Note: One space must be between the colon and the word Question.
Each question must begin with a question
number, followed by either a period "." or a parentheses ")".
The question wording must follow the question
number. Note: One space should be between the question number and the
question wording.
Each answer must begin with a letter (A-Z)
followed by a period "." or a parentheses ")". Note: All text should be aligned flush left to the left margin.
Paragraph Example:
Type: P
Title: Question 4 4) How is the Michelson-Morley experiment related to Albert Einstein's theory of relativity?
Format
for Submitting Short Answer/Fill in the Blank WebCT Quiz Questions to CID
Short Answer questions (also known as "fill in the blank") may also be imported. The first line of formatting for each question must begin with "Type: S". This is followed by the "Title" (which is optional), the question number, and the question wording. Respondus allows you to import only one correct answer per question, but it does permit you to enter multiple forms of that answer.(see example below):
Each question must have a
title, which should appear as: Title: Question number. Note: The question number must be a two digit number; for numbers
1 through 9, insert a zero before the number. Note: One space must be between the colon and the word Question.
Each question must begin with a question
number, followed by either a period "." or a parentheses ")".
The question wording must follow the question
number. Note: One space should be between the question number and the
question wording.
Each answer must begin with a letter (A-Z)
followed by a period "." or a parentheses ")". Note: All text should be aligned flush left to the left margin.
Short Answer Example:
Type: S
Title: Question 5
5. Who is known as the "father of television"?
a. Zworykin
b. Vladimir Zworykin
c. Vladimir Kosma Zworykin
Format
for Submitting Matching WebCT Quiz Questions to CID
The process of importing a "matching" question is similar to what is described above for importing multiple choice questions, but there are some key differences. The first line of formatting must begin with "Type: MT". This is followed by the "title" (which is optional), the question number, and the question wording.
Each answer (which consists of both portions of a correct match) must begin with a letter (a-z) followed by a period "." or a parentheses ")". The two parts of the match must be separated with an "=" symbol and there should not be any hard returns or blank lines within either part of the answer.
Matching Example:
Type: MT
Title: Question 6 - 8
6) Match the correct name to the discovery or theory.
a. Michelson-Morely = Speed of light
b. Einstein = Theory of Relativity
c. Marconi = radio waves
Format
for Submitting Multiple Response WebCT Quiz Questions to CID
The logic for importing multiple response questions is similar to what is described above for importing multiple choice questions. (Multiple Response questions are, essentially, multiple choice questions in which more than one correct answer can -- and generally should -- be selected by the student). The primary difference is that the first line of the formatting must begin with "Type: MR". This is followed by the "Title" (which is optional), the question number, and the question wording. Correct answers are designated with an asterisk.
The correct answer is indicated by placing
an asterisk (*) directly in front of the answer. Note: Do not put a space between the asterisk and the correct
answer.
Multiple Response Example:
Type: MR
Title: Question 9 9) Which of the following individuals are credited with determining the exact speed of light?
a. Albert Einstein
*b. Albert Michelson
