Donna Eakle
Administrative Assistant
|
I'm Donna Eakle, Administrative Assistant with the Center for Instructional Delivery. I began working at USF in May, 2004 in my present position. My main responsibilies here at CID are overseeing the WebCT classes and publishing this CID newsletter three times a year. The best part of my job is providing support to both the instructors and students that take online classes.
Prior to working at USF, I've owned my own cleaning business, have been a head cashier with The Home Depot and worked as a Teacher's Aide at St. Patrick School in Joliet.
On a personal note, my husband Terry and I have been married for twenty-four years and have lived in the Joliet area for the past fifteen.
We have two wonderful - of course! - sons: T.J., who is a sophomore here at the University of St. Francis (computer major) and Tyler, a freshman at Joliet Catholic Academy, Joliet.
Our two dogs, Luke, the Poodle, and Toby, the Yorkie, complete our happy home. My hobbies include our "furry kids", the computer, cooking with my KitchenAid mixer, and reading. I am presently a student at USF (just beginning my Junior year), continuing to work toward my Applied Organizational Management degree.
If you ever find that you need any assistance or have any questions in regard to your online classes or WebCT, please don't hesitate to contact me at deakle@stfrancis.edu or (815) 740-5080.
Tips for the Online Student

How to Shop for a Laptop |
As a student, I'm sure there are times when you feel you are tethered to your desktop computer with classwork. During these summer months, it's hard to sit in the house and work on your assignments when the weather is beckoning you to come out and soak up some rays. With a laptop (also known as a notebook) computer, you can do your homework while you are enjoying the outdoors. A laptop computer can run on an electrical current, or a rechargeable lithium battery, which allows you endless computer mobility!
Bright Hub has done all of the research for you and publishes a Notebook Computer Buying Guide to see which laptop computer would fit your needs.

WebCT Assignment Uploads:
Naming Your File |
When naming your file it is a good idea to add your last name to the file name, such as: assignment1smith.doc The instructor will then have no problem with duplication when the files have to be downloaded for grading. If you do not have Microsoft Word remember to save all your files with the .rtf extension. (Rich Text Format)

Tips for the Online Student |

Online Students Ought to Know:
Do not inadvertently alienate your student peers or instructor.
In online communication, you don’t see another human being as you would in face-to-face interaction; you do not see any facial expressions or any gestures; you do not hear a voice with its special way of conveying emotions. All that you see is a computer monitor. Yet you must always consider the other person along with his or her feelings whenever you type an email, participate in keyboard chatting, or make comments about an assignment. Do not make fun of or “flame” your instructor or fellow students when you communicate online. When in doubt, save your email and read it again later. That may take the “oops” out of email miscommunications and avoid hard feelings for the weeks remaining in the course.

A Great Resource
The USF Library
|
Check out what is available to both on-campus and online students alike at the USF library. You can search the online databases to find research articles and references for papers and assignments. If there is a "full text" link, the whole article is available online. To search for articles in a specific journal or to browse the list of journals available online in our databases, you can go to find articles full-text online. By clicking on forms you can request materials via interlibrary loan, or, for more personal assistance, e-mail a reference librarian by clicking on Ask-a-Librarian. The library is open over 70 hours a week during the academic year to assist you with your research needs. The website can answer many questions you may have. Feel free to contact the librarians with any inquiry.
