What is a PDS?

A professional development school (PDS) is an inter-institution effort to continually improve student learning. A university and a school district partner over time in order to build relationships and commitment to shared goals. The institutions share resources, expertise, and responsibility for four main functions of schooling:

  • P-12 student learning
  • Professional preparation of future teachers
  • Professional development of practicing educators
  • Inquiry directed at improved practice and improved student learning.
