Teacher Candidate Seminar

309 Eastern Ave.
1:15PM Joliet, IL 60432

I asked the director how we can best prepare. Ms. Nelson noted the following:

Areas that students may think about for questions include:

  • Basic social services - food pantry, social services networking & referral
  • The immigrant and the immigration process (keeping in mind that we service everyone, not only Hispanics)
  • English as a second language classes
  • Preschool and bilingual early childhood classes
  • Fundraising in the social service arena
  • Fiscal concerns for not-for-profit

Please be on time and ready to begin by 1:15PM

I will be in touch if there are any parking restrictions or assignments.

Respectfully,

Sue Swarthout
USF Field Experience

** If any USF/PDS team are interested in coming, please advise Sue I would like to give Ms. Nelson a close approximate of number of attendees.

You could find us in the basement!

Every inch of space is being utilized at our school due to increased enrollment.

Teacher candidates and their supervisor met for the first of three student seminars at A.O. Marshall.

Topic: Happy Reading by Debbie Miller

It was a good opportunity for us to meet one another! There is little time for candidates to just sit down and talk. Both special and general education constituents are represented our school.

Upcoming dates for student seminars are Oct. 20th and Nov. 17th, 2006

Sue Swarthout, Supervisor

Teacher Candidate Seminars at Farragut:

September 29th, Debbie Miller, "Reading with Meaning"

October 20th, Ruby Payne, "Understanding Poverty"

November 17th, "Teaching Styles"

On October 11th we will be hosting the teacher's checkpoint lunch at the Farragut Media Center.  This is an opportunity for the current cooperating teachers to informally discuss the field experience program with the USF supervisor.  Many useful suggestions from past checkpoint lunches have been implemented. For more information, please contact Tracy Spesia.

Please use the following Sign-in sheet for any workshops, training seminars, or meetings that involve JPDSP members. The sheet can be submitted to Barb Ingold in the College of Education.
