Psychology Club Constitution

Article I: Name

The name of this organization shall be the University of St. Francis Psychology Club.

Article II: Purpose

The purpose of this organization shall be to foster understanding and stimulate interest in the discipline of Psychology to the University of St. Francis community. This organization will become a source of information on the field and on internships, volunteer opportunities and informative speakers.

Article III: Membership

  1. Membership shall he open to all University of St. Francis students.
  2. Members shall he active participants in organization meetings and events.
  3. The organization shall meet a minimum of two times per month throughout the academic year. The President calls for more frequent meetings at the request of other members.
  4. The organization officers shall meet a minimum of one time per month throughout the academic year.
  5. The President and Vice President of the organization shall attend all meetings. In the case of documented illness or emergency, they shall notify another officer of their absence and update themselves on the events of the meeting.
Article IV: Dues

No dues are required, however both public and private donations will be accepted. A committee led by the Treasurer and presented to the organization before the time of acceptance and again at the beginning of the academic year will prepare an annual budget.

Article V: Officers

Section I: Officers

The organization officers shall be the President, the Vice-President, Secretary, Treasurer, Fundraising Chairperson, Activities Chairperson, and Publicity Chairperson.

Section II: Advisor

The advisor shall be a member of the faculty of the Department of Psychology at the University of St. Francis, and shall become the advisor at the request of the organization members and the acceptance of the faculty member.

Section III: Removal of Officers

  1. One week advance warning, and a chance to defend him/herself must be given to the officer in question before a meeting in which the possibility of removal of that officer is to be voted on.
  2. An officer can he removed from office only by a majority vote of the members present at the meeting.
  3. Possible reasons for removal of an officer include, but are not limited to:
Section IV: Elections
  1. Elections for the above named officers shall be held once an academic year, on the second meeting of that semester. A special election will be he]d to elect a member into any open officer position.
  2. All members are eligible to vote.
  3. The advisor shall chair all elections.
  4. In case of a tie vote, one revote will be taken. Should this vote result in a second tie, the officers will both hold that position with equal responsibility and duties.
Article VI: Duties of Officers

Section I: President

As chief executive s/he shall preside over both full association meetings and officer meetings, maintain order, and supervise the other officers. Duties include but are not limited to attending all full association and officer meetings; preparing an agenda for the full association and officer meetings; checking organization mailboxes frequently; delegating miscellaneous responsibilities; attending required Student Activities Board meetings; attending required Student Government Association meetings with the Treasurer for monetary issues; appointing the chairpersons for any committees deemed necessary; maintaining an open dialogue with the organization and its advisor, the Psychology Department, Student Government Association, and the President of the University of St. Francis; and upholding organization policies and procedures.

Section II: Vice President

S/he shall assist the President and assume his/her duties in the absence of the President. The duties of the Vice President shall include, but not be limited to, attending all full association and officer meetings; attending required Student Activities Board meetings; working with the Activities Chairperson to confirm guest speakers and aid activities; appointing the chairpersons for any committees deemed necessary; maintaining the organization's correspondence with the Encounter and other mediums along with the Publicity Chairperson; and upholding organization policies and procedures.

Section III: Treasurer

S/he shall be responsible for all association financial records and accounting. The Treasurer is authorized, after presentation to officers, to pay all bills with organization monies. Any check amounting in over twenty-five dollars also requires the signature of the President of the organization. Other duties include, but are not limited to attending required Student Government Association meetings for monetary issues; creating a budget proposal and interim funding proposal with the approval of the other officers; updating and understanding the current budget; presenting that budget to the organization regularly and when requested; and filling out forms needed to obtain funds for activities.

Section IV: Secretary

S/he shall be responsible for maintaining and keeping all association records and correspondence, all of which will he made accessible to other officers. Further duties include, but are not limited to taking unbiased minutes at both full association and officer meetings; typing and printing of those minutes; making the minutes available in the Psychology Department office on a timely basis; and emailing the minutes to the members, officers and advisor of the organization, except in the case of the minutes of the officer's meetings, which will be handed out at the next officer's meeting. 

Section V: Fundraising Chairperson

S/he shall be responsible for the facilitation of fundraising events, and may request to form any committee necessary for that purpose.

Section VI: Activities Chairperson

S/he shall be responsible for finding, researching, contacting the necessary persons and planning of events, speakers or activities. These possible events, speakers or activities will he presented to the full association for approval before they are finalized. S/he may request to form any committee necessary for that purpose.

Section VII: Publicity Chairperson

S/he shall be responsible for promoting and publicizing the organization to the University of St. Francis community through any available medium. Further duties include, but are not limited to, maintaining organization's correspondence with the University of St. Francis student newspaper the Encounter and initiating new member contact. S/he may request to form any committee necessary for that purpose.

Article VII: Committees

Section I: The Executive Committee

The governing administration body of the organization shall be the Executive Committee comprised of: the President, the Vice President, the Secretary, the Treasurer, the Fundraising Chairperson, the Activities Chairperson and the Publicity Chairperson.

Section II: Appointment of Committee Chairpersons

The President and the Vice President can appoint chairpersons of any committee deemed necessary, with authority to carry out specific duties.

Article VIII: Amendments

This Constitution may be amended only after proper presentation to the advisor, proper presentation to the full association, and by a 2/3 majority vote of the membership present at the meeting.

Article IX: Rules

The meetings shall be conducted by the President or, if s/he is unable to attend, the next senior officer in attendance.
