ACADEMIC ADVISING

At the University of St. Francis, the concept of academic advising assumes an ongoing dialog between advisor and student, not simply the occasional preparation of the student's schedule for the upcoming semester. An academic advisor is available to every student who is seeking a degree. Although it is the student's responsibility to know the requirements for graduation and the courses required in the major program, the academic advisor is available for assistance and for approval of each semester's schedule to assure that all requirements are being met.

Students who have not yet chosen a major register as "undeclared" majors. The academic advisor for undeclared majors is experienced in advising those who need special assistance in choosing the most appropriate major.

Students wishing to schedule an appointment at an off-campus location may do so at the time of an administrative visit to classes in that area.

Nursing (Fast Track) Student Advising
Nursing students enrolled in the Fast Track Program are encouraged to call the College of Nursing at (815) 741-7123 for advising assistance.

General Student Advising
Students enrolled in academic programs outside of the College of Health Arts, Graduate and Professional Studies are generally assigned an academic advisor from their particular program. This advisor is usually a faculty member in their major academic area of study. Students may make an appointment to speak with the advisor or contact the advisor by phone as necessary. The advisor is there to assist the student in selecting courses, registering for classes and providing them with career counseling related to the major.

Adult and evening students need to give careful attention to their advisor's office hours, and should note the relationship of those office hours with the time that the student usually is on campus. Students should try to make advising appointments for the purposes of registration as far ahead of time as possible. Most advisors post sign-up sheets on their office doors for students to schedule advising appointments. If you are unable to contact your advisor for an appointment, please contact the Registrar for assistance. Phone (815) 740-3391.
