Residence Life: Living and Learning @ USF
Welcome:
As a Catholic University rooted in liberal arts, the USF Residence Life department provides students a safe place to live and learn. As a community of learners we seek opportunities to live out the Franciscan values of respect and service while challenging ourselves to be people of integrity and compassion. As students live and interact with one another they are provided the opportunity to create meaningful relationships as they discover who they are created to be both as individuals and in the larger community.
There has been a lot of research done investigating the benefits of living on campus verses commuting. Here are a few of the most commonly accepted benefits of the residence life experience:
- Increased development of self-esteem, self-understanding
- Increased ability to be self rather than peer directed
- Increased time spent studying
- Increased exposure to faculty and staff members
- Greater involvement in "Campus Life"
- Increased grade point average
- Increased satisfaction with college experience
- Increased time spent pursuing academic activities
- Increased likelihood of applying for admission to graduate school
Greater commitment to accomplishment of long-range goals
Our intention as the Residence Life staff is to create a program that is about: People, Personal Responsibility, Relationships, Integrity and Learning. It is about creating community while inspiring students to find out more about who they are as individuals. We want our students to challenge each other towards lifestyle leadership and healthy living. As our students collectively experience life and learning together it is our belief that they will also grow in their ability to engage others, think independently, value differences, problem solve, and become healthy adults. We are better as individuals when we learn to live respectfully within community.
