Strategic Plan 2006 - 2011

Message from the President

I am pleased to present the work of our Strategic Planning Steering Committee. Strategic Plan 2006-11, approved by the USF Board of Trustees in June, is the culmination of a year of research, analysis, input and feedback from the USF
community.

This strategic plan is a road map that allows us to build upon our foundation and manifest our mission and values, thus presenting us with a vision of what the University of St. Francis will be in 2011. The foundation for transforming this vision into reality is the use of continuous quality improvement throughout the institution.

During fall 2005, much work was done to better understand the educational, economic and community environments, the needs and issues facing the region and the climate of the markets we serve. The USF community was invited to participate in an exercise on what it means to be a “premier” institution. In December, a large number of faculty, administrators, staff, trustees and students engaged in a SWOT exercise to better identify environmental threats and opportunities, as well as institutional strengths and weaknesses. From these discussions, strategies were developed. Finally, in spring 2006, goals and objectives began to emerge from the extensive information gathered. The USF community was asked to react to a proposed set of goals.

As we move forward, a Strategic Plan Implementation Committee will oversee the development of action plans related to each objective and metrics will be established that allow us to chart progress. The committee will also provide the USF community with periodic progress reports and make tactical adjustments as deemed necessary. I challenge each of us, as members of the USF community, to adopt a specific goal or objective so that through our daily service to the university and our students, we will contribute in ways large and small to making our shared vision a reality and to achieve the promise that our mission embodies.
