The primary goal of the university is to serve, retain, and educate students. Student Affairs provides services to the students to help with their holistic development in creating responsible adults who are productive members of a world community. Students need to develop socially, psychologically, vocationally and spiritually, as well as academically. Services are available to students to enhance the likelihood that development in these areas will occur gradually over the student’s term in school and such development should be coordinated so that what is learned academically is enhanced by learning experiences outside the classroom.
Meet the Vice President of Student and Alumni Affairs
Welcome to USF! We are excited for you to join our community of learners. We hope that you will take advantage of opportunities to experience personal growth and broaden your educational and social goals. We would like to assist you by providing an environment where your outside-the-classroom experience contributes to knowledge acquisition and application, cognitive complexity, intrapersonal development, interpersonal competence and practical competence.
Students are most successful in the university setting if they make connections. Whether you are planning to commute or stay on campus, getting involved in student life will take you a step further in your journey. We encourage all students to join a student organization, identify social or cultural events to attend, and get to know the student services available. We also encourage you to be aware of campus happenings by reading the posters on bulletin boards, checking your MyUSF portal and following the various clubs and organizations through social media.
As your Dean, I am well aware of the increased level of communication through social networks. I encourage you to follow me on Twitter (@DamonSloan) and “Like” the “Dean of Students Office, University of St. Francis” page on Facebook. Through these sites, you will become more aware of opportunities, and we’ll have some fun contests and prizes along the way.
Utilize your academic advisor, Student Academic Support Services and other student services as tools for success. Being an intern, leader and/or volunteer will enhance your skills and better prepare you for your professional life within a diverse global community.
The faculty, staff and administration look forward to seeing your personal growth, accomplishments and the contributions you will make to our university. There is no greater joy than seeing you in your academic regalia on commencement day walking across the stage to receive your diploma. Student Services is here to assist and serve you. Let us know how we can help you to be successful!
