Koinonia
Retreat
Koinonia,
a Greek word meaning "community,"
is a student-led retreat supported by the USF
community. This popular, Catholic-based program
has been a cornerstone of University Ministry
for over fifteen years, and attracts a variety
of students of diverse cultural and religious
backgrounds. The retreats are held each semester
in October and March at LaSalle Manor Retreat
Center in Plano, IL (www.lasallemanor.org).
Nazareth
Farm
Nazareth Farm, is an association of the Roman
Catholic Church, located in the Diocese of Wheeling/Charleston,
West Virginia, formed in response to and rooted
in the Gospel and Social Teachings of the Church.
While Nazareth Farm's primary service is home
repair, our work involves much more than just
the physical labor. We go beyond hammering nails
and painting walls and dig deep into the basic
need for people to feel loved and appreciated.
With a focus on social justice and cornerstones
of community, simplicity, prayer and service,
we emphasize working with people rather than
for them, and we strive to always learn from
one another.
Boliva
Trip
Over the past eleven years, the Diocese of Joliet
has established a relationship with the Diocese
of Sucre, Boliva, in which we send groups of
people and supplies to aid in health care, construction,
and cultural exchanges. Hundreds of doctors,
nurses, and skilled tradesmen have traveled
to Bolivia to provide basic health care, perform
minor surgeries, repair homes and construct
new buildings and living spaces. Our college
missions have provided an opportunity for our
students to work with the youth of their community
with children in orphanages, hospitals for the
disabled, and even prison ministry. One of the
encouraging results of this outreach is that
the youth of their community are becoming more
involved in volunteerism after seeing our college
students do the same.

A
Prayer for College Students
Loving
and Gracious God
We give you thanks!
For
you have given us
a
keen and curious mind,
an open and expansive heart
strong and productive hands.
Awaken
Us!
Keep us alert to your Kingdom!
When
we are lonely, help us build community.
When we doubt, open our hearts.
When we are self-centered, open our minds.
When we are apathetic, show us our strength.
When we are proud, show us our limitations.
Loving
and Gracious God
We give you thanks!
May
we be good students of your wisdom,
good stewards of your creation
and parents to a more compassionate future.
We
ask these things in, and through,
and with Jesus,
our brother and Lord.
