After earning his MFA in Painting & Drawing from The Ohio State University in 1999, Mr. Erschen began teaching at the University of St. Francis in 2001. Currently, his teaching duties include; Director of the Moser Performing Arts Center Gallery, Studio Facilities Coordinator, and Studio Art Lecturer.
As Director of the MPAC Gallery, Mr. Erschen has presented both regional and international art to the USF community. Recent MPAC exhibitions have included artists such as Toni Hafkenscheid, Anni Holm, Carrie Pollack, Carolyn Swiszcz, Scott Lyne, Matt Irie, Jeff DeGolier, and Geoffrey Todd Smith. In his position as Studio Facilities Coordinator, Mr. Erschen has implemented a workshop facility that provides students with access to a variety of essential woodworking and sculpture equipment. Each semester, students attend safety training and technical seminars for projects such as picture-framing and stretcher construction. As Lecturer in the department of art, Mr. Erschen teaches Introductory-Advanced levels of Painting & Drawing, Two & Three-Dimensional Design Principles, Screen-Printing, and Visual Arts Seminar. Mr. Erschen also maintains an active studio practice in Chicago, Illinois. Mr. Erschen’s recent paintings, drawings, and sculpture reflect his continuing interest in microfilm archives, abandoned architecture, and discarded cinematic material. Mr. Erschen’s recent exhibitions include "Divisions of Space" –Chicago, IL, "Days Parade" –Missoula, Montana, "Template" –Chicago, IL, and "Graphics" –Siaului, Lithuania. Additionally, Mr. Erschen plays percussion for the Chicago-based, three-piece band, “Mayor Daley”.
