Born in England, performance artist Mathew Wilson has lived and worked in Chicago since 1991. His performance activities have included a variety of styles and approaches. In 1994 he performed a 168-hour non-stop play where members of the public slept in the theater and took lunch on the stage. In 1996 he choreographed hundreds of members of the community to simultaneously fall over in the street.
Wilson's most recent project, Industry of the Ordinary, explores the aesthetics of the everyday and has recently published their first book, Text Book: Notes Around the Margins. Industry of the Ordinary has recently received grants from the Illinois Humanities Council and the Illinois Arts Council.
Wilson has taught at the School of the Art Institute, the University of St. Francis and at Columbia College, Chicago.
