Joliet, Ill. –  Although its spring semester courses are being conducted in online format in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the many offices and departments at the University of St. Francis (USF) continue to offer services remotely to students and alumni. One such office, the USF Career Success Center (CSC), remains focused on helping students and alumni prepare for and seek employment.

“The CSC is available to all students and alumni. We are doing our best to provide resources that will assist our students and alumni as they update resumes, write cover letters, explore majors and career paths, and search for jobs and internships,” said Maribeth Hearn, USF Career Success Center Director.

Another way the USF CSC is offering assistance is through weekly “Virtual Coffee and Careers” events every Tuesday at 11 a.m.

“The Virtual Coffee and Careers events are held in Microsoft Teams, and interested students and alumni can join in and we discuss what is on their mind. It could be a resume question, a job search question or just a place to learn more about the resources we offer. Interested participants are invited to send an email to careerservices@stfrancis.edu and we will send them the invite link. It is a pop-by service—they do not have to stay the whole time,” Hearn said.

Hearn added that, while these are certainly challenging times for many, now is still a good time to job hunt or improve one’s resume.

“If you are in healthcare there is a lot of opportunity as well as essential worker positions like grocery store clerks and staff.  This is a good time to be updating resumes, connecting on LinkedIn and closing any skill gaps you might have.  There are many online courses available and even YouTube can teach you all kinds of new skills,” she said.

The USF Career Success Center is devoted to helping students and alumni research career options. In doing so, we focus on the individual needs, goals, and values of each student. The Career Success Center believes in personal and professional development therefore assistance with job search, resume and cover letter writing, along with career counseling are among the services available.
