Alicia Baca ’18

Although she lives in sunny Albuquerque, New Mexico (close to USF’s campus there), Alicia Baca and her family will travel to USF’s main campus in Joliet, Illinois for the 2018 commencement ceremonies as she graduates with an MSN in the Family Nurse Practitioner program.

Though she’s just minutes from USF’s Albuquerque campus, Alicia completed her MSN online, benefiting from the flexibility the program provided to make it easier for her both to go to school and work. Alicia completed the entire degree online, with the exception of her required clinical rotations and a few workshops at USF’s main campus in Joliet, where she enjoyed meeting the faculty and students in person. She’s hoping to connect with Illinois-based students at the graduation ceremony and get the full on-campus graduation experience.

Her tips for learning online? Stay organized, plan ahead, schedule your time and be disciplined.

Alicia currently works as an R.N. in the emergency department at University of New Mexico Hospital. The FNP degree will help to progress her career as an advanced practice provider. But to Alicia, the degree means more than just expanding her career: it means being able to better help others.

“This degree will not only allow me to advance my career, but will also enable me to expand my role as a health care provider. It will give me a greater ability to care for my patients and community, which is my true calling,” she expressed.

Alicia thanks her family and friends for helping her achieve this major accomplishment.

“I am incredibly grateful to my friends and family who love, support and encourage me every day. But, I am also especially appreciative to my parents whose sacrifices, hard-work and integrity have made me who I am today,” she gushed.

When she’s not working or in school, Alicia loves to travel to see and experience different parts of the world. Now that her degree is complete, she’ll hopefully have more free time to do just that.
