Income Tax Assistance Offered by USF Volunteers

University of St. Francis (USF) accounting students, along with some community volunteers, are currently offering free tax preparation and electronic filing for low-income families in the Joliet area as part of the university’s Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) group.

Families with a combined annual income of up to $55,000 and individuals with an annual income of up to $30,000 qualify for the walk-in service, which is offered by IRS-certified volunteers and is available on Mondays from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. and Fridays from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. at USF (St. Albert Hall, Room A124) from now through Monday, April 15, 2019 (with the exception of March 4, 2019 and March 8, 2019). Participants are asked to park in the Pat Sullivan Recreation Center parking lot located off Douglas Street.

Community members interested in utilizing the service should bring the following items with them to their visit:

  • Original Social Security Card or ITIN that appears on your return;
  • Photo I.D.;
  • ALL 2018 tax documents (W-2, 1099 forms, etc.);
  • Checking and savings account information and routing numbers;
  • Information pertaining to healthcare coverage (For 1095-A, 1095-B, 1095-C, Medicare card) or Certificate of Exemption;
  • Copy of your second or final property tax bill paid in 2018 (if applicable), and;
  • Copy of your 2017 return (if applicable).
