Where is the International Programs Office?
The International Programs Office is located in Tower Hall, N212 and is open from 8:30 a.m. – 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Where can I go?
The better question is “where can’t you go?” USF offers programs all over the world, so chances are you can go anywhere you want!

 

When can I go?
You can study abroad for a semester as early as your second semester sophomore year. Junior year is the best time to go abroad for a full academic year. You are eligible to attend faculty-led programs and summer programs after your first year at USF.

 

Where will I live when I study abroad?
Accommodations depend on the specific program you choose to attend, but will either be a homestay, residence hall or apartment. Specific housing will be provided to you once you speak with the International Programs Coordinator.

 

How long can I study abroad?
Typically study abroad programs are for a semester or an academic year, but there are also short-term summer programs and faculty-led programs offered.

 

Do I have to be fluent in a foreign language to study abroad?
No! There are programs all over the world that are taught in English, even if English is not the language of that country. Also, many of these programs in English offer beginner language courses in the country’s language.

 

Will I receive USF credits?
Yes. You must participate in a USF-approved programs and have all of your courses approved prior to leaving. This is to insure that you will receive credit for all of the courses you take abroad.

 

Will studying abroad delay my graduation?
No! It is important to plan studying abroad ahead of time and you will have no problem graduating on time.

 

How much does it cost to study abroad?
Despite what you might think, study abroad can be very affordable! There are a number of opportunities available that actually cost LESS than your regular USF tuition. Also, there are programs that cost significantly more than your USF tuition. The International Programs Office is here to help you to decide which program is best for you and your budget!

 

How can I fund my study abroad?
There are a number of scholarships available through outside sources that only students who are studying abroad can apply for. Also, some of the financial aid you receive right now can be used towards a USF-approved study abroad program. It is extremely important that you meet with a financial aid advisor to review your study abroad budget and find out how much financial aid you are eligible for.

Will I need a passport or visa to study abroad?
Yes! You must have a passport to study abroad and depending on the country where you are studying you might need a student visa as well. The International Programs Office will be able to assist you with getting your passport and visa. It is important to note that it can take up to three months to get your passport, so apply for your passport as soon as possible.

Yes, the US State Department ( http://www.travel.state.gov/) offers travel information for US citizens and the Centers for Disease and Control (http://www.cdc.gov/) offer health information for travelers.
