MERIT Scholarship Application: 2019-209 Academic Year

Before you begin, please prepare a response to each of the following writing prompts. You will be required to upload your responses* as part of the application.

  • Why did you choose education as a career?
  • Have you had any experiences that have helped prepare you to be a teacher?
  • Describe a teacher who has had a positive influence on your life.
  • The mission of the MERIT program is to help cultivate teachers who best represent the diverse backgrounds of Joliet students. How does your cultural background support this mission?

*You may include all four (4) responses in a single file or save them individually. The upload feature will accept up to four (4) .pdf, .doc, or .jpg files.
 
The MERIT Scholarship application deadline for the 2019-20 academic year is February 15, 2019.

The MERIT Scholarship application process also requires that applicants:

  • Complete and submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) - USF code is 001664
  • Have been granted admission to USF for the 2019-20 Academic Year
  • Participate in an interview with the selection committee
