Irma Sandoval Vizcaino Named USF’s 2017 Student Laureate

The University of St. Francis is pleased to announce that Irma Sandoval Vizcaino has been selected as a 2017 Student Laureate of the Lincoln Academy of Illinois. Student Laureates are honored for their leadership and service in the pursuit of the betterment of humanity and for overall excellence in curricular and extracurricular activities.

Vizcaino is majoring in mathematics with a secondary education certification. She hopes to be a math teacher and help students develop a love for the subject.

“Being the student Laureate means the world to me because I know that all of the other students that were nominated definitely deserved it as well,” Vizcaino said.

“I am also honored and humbled at this opportunity to be part of an award that reflects my own values, which are education and being involved. This award also reinforces my philosophy of education and what I will be carrying with me through my career as a teacher,” she commented.

Vizcaino is involved in many activities both on and off campus. She is a resident assistant and a member of the Kappa Delta Pi Education Honor Society, San Alberto Hurtado Latino Honor Society, Student Government Association and Unidos Vamos Alcanzar. She’s also involved with MERIT (Multicultural Education Recruitment in Teaching) Fellows and the Joliet Professional Development School Partnership.

On Saturday, Nov. 11, Irma will attend the 43rd Annual Student Laureate Award Ceremony held in the Hall of Representatives of the Old State Capitol in Springfield.
