University to Host Community Meeting on Highway Safety

On Thursday, January 11, 2018 from 6-8 p.m., Residents United for Safer Highways (RUSH) will host a community town hall meeting in the Sexton Auditorium at the University of St. Francis, 500 Wilcox St., Joliet, 60435.

The meeting is open to the public and will bring together members of several Illinois transportation agencies and invited local elected officials to discuss what immediate and long term options are available to make Will County highways safer. The following topics will be covered that evening:

  • Widening of I-80 from Rt. 30 in New Lenox to River Road in Minooka
  • Replacing aging bridges over the Des Plaines River on I-80 and I-55
  • Funding of area Interstate and infrastructure improvements

The meeting will be moderated by 1340 WJOL Program Director and Morning Host Scott Slocum. Speakers will include Randall S. Blankenhorn, secretary of the Illinois Department of Transportation, Mary Craighead, AICP, transportation analyst for the Illinois Economic Policy Institute and Marc Poulos, executive director of the Indiana, Illinois & Iowa Foundation for Fair Contracting.

Several local elected officials were also invited to attend including Will County Executive Larry Walsh, Sr., Senators Jennifer Bertino-Tarrant, Pat McGuire, Sue Rezin and Mayor of Joliet, Bob O’Dekirk.
