LCON Nationally Ranked by Online Almanac

August 22, 2016 | Joliet, Ill.

The University of St. Francis (USF) is proud to announce that the Leach College of Nursing (LCON) has been ranked nationally by in their inaugural ranking of U.S. nursing schools. LCON was ranked in three separate listings, including:

  • #10 overall in the Great Lakes region
  • #31 among private nursing schools
  • #63 nursing school in the country

Only the top 2% of schools were considered when ranking programs nationwide. The website collected data from more than 3,200 institutions nationwide and found that only 10% of those programs made the final list. A full listing can be found at

Institutions were rated on their academic prestige, perceived value, depth and breadth of nursing programs offered and the rate of student success, especially their performance on the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX). In 2015 LCON graduates achieved a pass rate of 97% on their NCLEX exam. This is compared to the 86% pass rate for the state of Illinois and the national pass rate of 85%. This pass rate is the highest so far in several years of a rising trend of high pass rate percentages for LCON students.

The University of St. Francis has educated four generations of caring and skilled nurses. Upon graduation, students are fully prepared to be competent clinicians and advocates for their patients.

“We tend to attract students who want to work with vulnerable populations and make a difference in the health of their communities and the world,” says LCON dean Carol Wilson. “Small class sizes, dedicated faculty and knowledgeable staff are key to the success of our graduates who serve as leaders in the nursing profession.”

In addition to the traditional BSN program, USF offers an online R.N. to BSN degree completion program and articulation agreements with many area community colleges including Joliet Junior College, Kankakee, Moraine and Waubonsee. Additionally, LCON offers a Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP), Master of Science in Nursing (Family Nurse Practitioner/FNP), Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP), Nursing Education, Nursing Administration and Teaching in Nursing Certificate. Post-master’s certificates in FNP and PMHNP are also available.
