USF Ranks High: Best Small College & Campus Safety

June 24, 2016 | Joliet, Ill.

The University of St. Francis (USF) was recently ranked among the top 25 safest schools and 25 best small colleges in the state of Illinois, among other accolades.

Niche.com ranked nearly 1,000 colleges with enrollments of less than 5,000 full-time students gave selected schools a “best small colleges” distinction. USF placed sixth of the 25 schools chosen. Factors such as acceptance rate, quality of professors, student debt, alumni earnings, student surveys, diversity and campus quality were considered.

Additionally, St. Francis is listed as the fourth safest school in Illinois of the 25 schools selected from 1,600 colleges and universities. Campus crime rates, local crime analysis and student opinion were among the factors considered.

“This ranking speaks to the University of St. Francis’s commitment in making our campus a safe and secure place to study, live and work, with our proactive efforts in safeguarding the well-being of our entire university community,” states Joe Kripp, director of USF’s Safety, Security & Transportation department. “It’s a collaborative approach we take seriously using the best ideas in balanced approaches in devising layers of protection for our community members”.

USF has also received attention for its outstanding job placement rates. Ninety-eight percent of surveyed graduates are employed or in graduate school. Graduates from the College of Business and Health Administration (COBHA) have a 93% job placement rate within six months of graduation. There are more than 300 COBHA alumni in executive level positions nationwide, with job titles including Chief Executive Officer, Chief Financial Officer and Vice President.

Some job placement rates can be correlated to excellent test scores on required assessment and licensure exams in certain career fields. For example, the 2015 Leach College of Nursing class achieved a 97% pass rate on their NLEX (National Council Licensure Examination) exam. The 2015-16 College of Education graduating classes earned a 100% first-time pass rate on the state mandated Ed-TPA performance assessment, which measures a novice teacher’s ability to positively impact student learning. Most recently, the 2016 Physician Assistant class in Albuquerque, N.M. received a 100% pass rate on the PANCE (P.A. National Certification Exam). USF graduates from the Physician Assistant program also enjoy a 100% job placement rate.

St. Francis continues to make strides in the veterans’ community. USF is ranked #29 for Best Colleges for Veterans in the Midwest by U.S. News & World Report. The university has also been deemed a Military Friendly School by Victory Media since 2011. The Military Friendly distinction is only earned by the top 15% of colleges, universities and trade schools that are doing the most to embrace America’s military service members, veterans and spouses as students and ensure their success on campus.

The University of St. Francis has been ranked in numerous additional U.S. News & World Report categories, as well as by media outlets including Princeton Review and Colleges of Distinction. For a full list of past and present rankings, please visit stfrancis.edu/nationally-ranked.
