Bilingual Education Endorsement Courses

Whether this is your first course through REAL or we are old friends, please check out the two buttons below prior to registering. They are filled with information you’ll want to know!

Now that you have the scoop, here are a few things to keep in mind regarding registration:

  1. Full payment of course tuition will be required during the registration process. Payment can be made via credit card (processing fee applies) or electronic check through our secure registration site.
  2. Drop requests must be submitted by 4 p.m. on the fifth business day (M-F) of the course to receive a refund of tuition paid/owed for the course. Accelerated format courses (running for less than eight weeks) must be dropped on or before the first day of class.
  3. Registration works best from a PC or laptop. While tablets and phones work for some individuals, varied settings can cause issues for others.
  4. Confirmation and subsequent communications occasionally get tangled in firewalls and placed in SPAM or junk folders. Be sure to take a look if you find you have not received confirmation of enrollment within three (3) business days of submitting your course registration.
  5. Candidates taking courses as part of a district or area partnership should visit District Partner Courses for information and registration. Registering from this page instead of your designated partner page will place you in a standard course section – forfeiting any applicable tuition benefit associated with the partnership.

Almost there . . . things you should know about Bilingual Education courses offered through REAL:

  • Candidates starting Bilingual Education courses with USF are to begin with course EEND 631 followed in sequence by course EEND 632 (these courses may be taken simultaneously). Taking these two course out of sequence must meet with instructor approval. After the first two courses have been taken, the remaining endorsement courses (EEND 633, EEND 634, EEND 637 and EEND 638) may be taken in any order.
  • In addition to course work noted, candidates seeking a Bilingual Education Endorsement in Illinois are required to complete 100 clock hours (or three months of teaching experience) in a bilingual setting. A tracking log should be retained, along with a letter verified by an administrator, of all hours or teaching experiences in a bilingual setting. The log and/or administrator verification may be required when applying to add the endorsement through ELIS OR during an audit of educator records.
  • Appropriate Target Language Proficiency or English Language Proficiency test (as applicable) will be required. For current information regarding Illinois State Board of Education requirements for licensure and endorsements (including tests when applicable), please visit ISBE at www.isbe.net.
